In the post below, you can find the basic outline of a five paragraph expository essay. I know this outline may feel particularly rigid, but seeing as this is your first ever essay writing project in English, I promise that it will serve as an excellent guide for this and any future project.
For the next class, I would like you to use this guide to create a bulleted outline of your essay. You do not have to write in complete sentences but you must include all necessary information. You will eventually use this outline to write the first draft of your research essay.

ReplyDeleteESSAY OUTLINE
INTRODUCTION:
It was the 20th of April 2010 when an oil rig of the BP oil company exploded into the Gulf of Mexico, causing an enormous leak of oil that is still devasting the enviroment. The BP oil spill is larger than any other leak into ocean, sea, or gulf waters in world history and understanding what happened in terms of the explosion, the leak and its expansion into the Gulf of Mexico can help us to not repeat the same mistakes and to preserve and protect the environment from other disasters.
1.
TS: The BP oil spill was the result of a catastrophic explosion of an oil plot, that leaked oil on the 20th of April 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico.
TE: at 10.30 the oil rig, Deepwater Horizon, exploded for causes that are still unknown. The fire impaired the Macondo oil well, a locker on the Gulf of Mexico, at 1500 metres under the sea, and the oil pressure destroied the security valves. Crude oil came out in an enormous wave.
CM: the oil spill is considered the biggest leak of oil into marine waters and it surpass for 10 times the accidental Exxon Valdez on 1989
CM: the leak is called by scientists “marea nera” because it killed a great deal of animals and devastated the environment.
TE: the way out of oil killed 11 workers and hurted 17 people. Infact the wave submerged the rig and the petroleum, in contact with skin, cause great burns and alleric reactions on people.
CM: people were so hungry because none could find the causes of the fire on the rig, but is known that the valves weren’t in security.
2.
ReplyDeleteTS: the amount of the leak was the about 4,9 million barrels of crude oil that moved in waves into the gulf of mexico caused many problems, like the death of a great deal of animals.
TE: During the explosion, a small part of oil was transformed to gas by the fire, but the better part of it was all poured into the sea.
CM: this had devasting effects on the marine fauna, like was said by Ben Bryant, from guardian: “According to data published by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in November 2010, the spill has affected thousands of birds and dozens of sea turtles. State and federal workers and contractors for BP recorded more than 6,100 dead birds, 2,200 of which were visibly oiled. They also recorded more than 600 dead sea turtles, 18 of which were visibly oiled. Not all of the deaths were thought to have been caused by the oil spill. 153 dead dolphins have washed up on the shore across the Gulf, at least eight of which were smeared with crude oil that has been traced to BP's well. It is yet to be established whether the oil killed them”.
TE: Of the part that was dispersed into the sea, 800’000 barrels were immediately captured by the containment efforts of BP, 2,8 million barrels were burned, skimmed, evaporated or dispersed and the remaining 1,3 million barrels were buried under the sand and sediment or are still floating on the ocean surface.
CM: the first part fortunately didn’t cause big problems, but the other two parts had lots of conseguences, like
3.
ReplyDeleteTS: the expansion of the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico varied a great deal because of the winds and the ocean currents and these movements killed many animals that lived on the deep… chiedo a didi
TE: “for the first month the oil stayed mostly in the gulf, but at the end of May waves of oil began washing into Louisiana’s fragile wetlands and beaches. In June oil landings began to be reported more frequently in the states of the East”. Was said by a BP report in the article “BP oil spill - as it happened”.
CM: fortunately, the static nature helped people to collect a part of the oil and preserved a part of the coast’s environment.
CM: people tried to collect all the oil in 5 different ways but the sudden changing of winds and currents in the last week of May couldn’t allow the clean-up officials to make progress.
TE: the article “tracking the oil spill in the Gulf” by the NY Times explane: “Survey areas of Louisiana were first released on May 24 and for Mississippi, Alabama and Florida beginning on June 12.”
CM: unfortunately fishing wasn’t allowed for a long time after June in Louisiana and the other cities of the coast and the problems still exist.
CONCLUSION
The BP oil spill wreaked many problems in a great deal of states and also in the world’s economy and oil companies have to keep more attention during the extraction of the petroleum and people have to use the oil in security because employ it in a bad way can create dangerous situations.
